What ingredients are found in a BRITA Pitcher Filter?
A BRITA Pitcher Filter contains activated carbon and an ion-exchange resin. All of the ingredients in the filter have been approved by NSF International.

As you may know, activated carbon is widely used in the food and medical industry. Its function in a BRITA Pitcher filter is to reduce the following: chlorine, bad tastes, odors, sediment, lindane, toxaphene, benzene, carbon tetrachloride, tetrachloroethylene and xylenes.

The activated carbon utilized is made from coconut shells that have been subjected to a special heating process that produces a large surface area capable of maximum absorption. The carbon used in a BRITA Pitcher filter is accepted as “food grade” quality by the FDA; it does not cause harm.

The ion-exchange resin in a BRITA Pitcher filter acts like a magnet and eliminates lead while reducing the following: mercury, copper, cadmium, and zinc. The ion-exchange resin also absorbs calcium and magnesium, which causes water hardness.

The contaminants or other substances removed or reduced by the BRITA Pitcher filter are not necessarily in all users’ water.
